The Vitrine is a project that focuses the relationship between the displayed objects and the viewer; specifically Venetian glass and silk. This concept for Vitrine focuses on the lifespan of the display- for multiple owners, products, and uses by utilizing a locking track system in which stretched fabric can frame, reflect, or conceal the objects displayed.
A reflective fabric and bright spotlights would be optimal for the display of the Venetian glass. The light would refract off of the fabric and highlight the glass.
The Venetian silk however could be stretched and hung throughout the store instead of folded up in shelves revealing every aspect of the silk to the consumer before purchase in an almost sculptural fashion.
Virtually any display can be achieved using the track system because of the infinite angles and display options that can be manipulated.
The second part of the Vitrine project was a twelve day drawing of the project we wanted to explore most. I explored my previously designed vitrine through perspective drawings from the exterior and interior. The drawing was meant to be a palimsest of thought, nothing could be restarted or erased. All mediums and materials and re-designs were layered to exhibit the progress of thought through design.
